I purchased the '78 Goldwing GL1000 on 4/25/2008 for my birthday. It has a Cafe racer look. The following modifications have been done prior to my purchase:
- Custom paint
- Custom seat & cowl
- Stock handlebars replaced with flatter lower bars
- Handle bar 1.5" riser installed
- Front/Rear signals removed
- Front fork brace isntalled
- Stock mirrors remove, bar end mirror added to left
- Rear shocks replaced with Showa
- Rear fender (inner and outter) removed
- Rear stock taillight/tag bracket removed
- Custom taillight mounted to seat
- Custom tag bracket monted to right rear shock mount (made from a Texas license plate)
- Stock headlight replaced with Vetter headlight
Since I have gotten the bike I have done the following modifications:
- Added custom from/rear turn signals
- Added stock rear inner fender
- Added custom Fender/Taillight/Tag holder
- Added right side bar end mirror, replaced left side
Maintenance done since purchase:
- 5/2/2008 Fixed horn - cleaned horn switch
- 5/2/2008 Adjusted handle bar and controls
- 5/9/2008 Replaced turn signal flasher with load independent flasher (557?)
To be done:
- Replace stator
- Fix neutral light that is always on
- Basic maintenance and tune-up
- Rework rear brake/tag light for brighter lighting
- Resolve uneven acceleration problem (charging system, carbs?)
- Repaint body panels
- Repaint frame
